Data controller

When you visit the site

• Server logs: IP address, date and time, requested page, browser and referring page. They keep the site running, protect it (bots, abuse) and feed our traffic statistics. Retention: 14 days.
• Internal statistics: from these logs we keep per-page daily counters, the country (derived on our server from a DB-IP database, with no third-party service) and a salted, truncated fingerprint of the IP address, used only to recognize returning visitors; the address itself is never stored. Retention: 13 months.
• Legal basis: our legitimate interest in securing the site and measuring its traffic.

Audience measurement (Google Analytics)

On aoebuddy.com we use Google Analytics 4, by Google Ireland Limited, to measure audience: page views, visit duration, device type, approximate country and city. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and data may be transferred to the United States (Google LLC, certified under the Data Privacy Framework). Retention: 14 months at most.

AoE Buddy account (optional)

Data: email address, display name, password (stored only in hashed form, scrypt), the Age of Empires II profiles you link to your account, followed players, saved teams, and a session cookie to keep you signed in.

Purpose: providing the account features. Legal basis: performance of the service you request. Retention: as long as the account exists; to delete it, write to us from the Contact page.

Feedback form and Contact page

Data: your message, the contact you choose to leave (email or Discord name, optional), the page concerned, the language, the targeted element and the screenshot if you add one. Only the team reads these messages. If you tick “Remember this contact on this device”, it stays in your browser and nowhere else.

Purpose: answering you and improving the site. Legal basis: our legitimate interest. Retention: 2 years.

Player data

Player pages, rankings and statistics rely on public game data (name, profile ID, country, Elo, ranked match history) and on game replays.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in publishing community statistics from data the game makes public. You can ask for your profile to be hidden or object to this processing from the Contact page.

Storage in your browser

The site keeps a few settings in your browser's local storage: display preferences, opting out of audience measurement, the remembered contact of the form. They are not sent to our servers.

Third-party content

Build order video guides are YouTube videos embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com): YouTube, by Google, only sets cookies once playback starts. The video thumbnails, and some official Age of Empires images, are loaded from their publishers' servers, which then receive your IP address.

Hosting and recipients

The site and its data are hosted by OVH SAS (France). We never sell or share any data. Only the publishers have access to it, plus Google for the audience measurement described above.

Your rights

You can access, rectify and erase your data, restrict or object to its processing, and ask for its portability. Write to us from the Contact page or at contact@aoebuddy.com, subject “Personal data”. You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
