The expansion has been out since September 22

The Viking Sagas released on September 22, 2026. The expansion adds the Danes, the Saxons and the Varangians, along with fifteen scenarios across three campaigns centered on Harald Hardrada. The Vikings already in the game get reworked: they are not a fourth new civilization.

To get to know the three civs, look at their bonuses and tech trees separately, without mixing them up with the Vikings. The official announcement covers the DLC’s content and its launch trailer. This is a recent release, not an expansion still to come.

The patch also touches older civilizations

Update 185872, released the same day, isn’t limited to the DLC. Most notably, it replaces Cavalry Archers with Mounted Crossbowmen for twelve European civilizations. It also includes balance adjustments as well as pathing and AI fixes.

If you’re coming back to ranked after a break, check your civ’s current tech tree before going back to your old army comp. The official notes detail the changes; they don’t guarantee that every tournament uses this patch.
